Brewood Cricket Club

Our season is over for another year. But Brewood can be quietly satisfied with how 2014 went.  At the start of the season, we asked ourselves whether Brewood could establish themselves as consistent performers in the challenging environment of the Birmingham League.  Despite a nervy end, with a succession of defeats, Brewood finished a safe 9th.  After the promotion and relegation dramas of recent years, it was nice to have a comparatively quiet season.

The stand-out improvers of the year were the Seconds who ended the year close to promotion.  The availability of senior players, as well as another year of experience and maturity for a talented band of young players, made for dramatic and welcome improvement at this level.  The other teams had a good season in their various leagues, with the Thirds finishing the season well and ending fifth in a strong league. They will be pleased that there are young players who have represented this team who also appeared for the Firsts. The Fourths continue to be competitive in Division 4, having again finished precisely half-way up the table.   New for this year was entry into the Lichfield and District Sunday League.  A team consisting largely of under-16s won their league at a canter and enjoyed a delightful season of relaxed cricket.  Brewood is even more the friendly, family village club it was when it was in the Staffordshire League, and hosts an exceptional quality of cricket.
